Woodstock Revisited

Marverick Concerts are held here.

In 1969, the sleepy little town of Woodstock, New York became a household word. Everyone was suddenly aware of where it was and what was (or wasn’t) there. It’s nearly 40 years later. What’s going on in Woodstock, now?

Long before the famous Rock Festival catapulted it into the spotlight, Woodstock was already a mecca for writers, artists and musicians. The oldest continuous chamber music festival in the country, the Maverick Concerts, has been hosted there since 1916 and the 350 acre Byrdcliff Arts Colony, a haven for artists of all kinds, has been around since 1903.

This area of western New York State is also a popular weekend getaway spot for outdoorsmen in the Northeast. Many of the hikers, mountain bikers, rock climbers, canoeists, hunters and fisherfolk drawn to the area choose a Catskills Bed and Breakfast for their accommodations, while others enjoy camping in the Hudson Valley, instead. Rental cottages are also in high demand and can be a great choice for families staying for more than a few nights.
