Me?

Well, I have a fear of falling off the chairlifts! Not because they are dangerous. But because of some fear and paranoia whose source remains unknown.

But I know enough to know that I don’t want to miss out on the beauty and fun this paradise has to offer. So, what to do? What to do when you’re afraid of the chairlifts?

First things first!

1. Light the fire in a comfortable, well-appointed Winter Park, CO vacation rental

2. Pour a warm(ing), delightful drink

3. Nestle into a comfy couch or chair

4. Refer to the plentiful, local trail maps and visitors guides

5. Begin planning mountain adventures

It’s not long before I realize that skis aren’t the only high-tech apparatus that can be strapped on your feet. So now I, too, can learn the true meaning of ‘powder day.’

Snowshoeing can get me to where I want to go; albeit not as quickly as downhill skis! But I’ll take the slow, quiet pace to enjoy the sounds and sights that this natural oasis has to offer.

And with all my handy-dandy trail guides, I can get out and enjoy the mountain even when it’s not freshly coated in diamond-encrusted white stuff!

Speeding down the mountainside at breakneck speeds on a bike perhaps…..?

Or just a leisurely stroll…?

The Inuit Tribe was certainly ahead of their time, designing this arrow-dynamic water craft as a means of hunting. Depending on region, the first kayaks could have variations on shape and length, but were generally consistent and used for the same purposes. The crafts were made framed with native woods and covered in animal skin. The most common animal skin used for these kayaks was sealskin.
The more modern and recreational use of kayaks (and canoes) was started by a man named John MacGregor from London in the 1800s. MacGregor took on the nickname Rob Roy and is credited with founding the English Royal Canoe Club in 1866 and making the sport of canoeing & kayaking a popular activity for the middle class. His initial interest in kayaking and canoeing began in 1858 when he ventured to Canada and the United States and was first introduced to the sport. Throughout the course of his life, MacGregor built more canoes/kayaks and sailed them throughout the Middle East, the Baltic and Europe. He also wrote and published books on the topic and was a renowned philanthropist.
By 1936, kayaking had become a part of the Olympics in the form of four new events. Athletes could participate in the single or pairs 1,000 meter race or the 10,000 meter event. More events were later added to the Olympics and it remains a popular and competitive race.
Materials used for making traditional kayaks have evolved since the Inuit Tribe first began using sealskin. After the Europeans adopted the sport, they began covering their kayaks in fabric while still utilizing a wooden frame. The use of fabric continued until the 1950’s: at this time kayak producers introduced the use of fiberglass which lasted well into the 1980’s when plastic came on the scene. Kayaks continue to use plastic and are much lighter and more versatile than kayaks in years past.
Today, many stunning locations exist to enjoy a thrilling or relaxing kayaking trip. Maui, Hawaii is one such location. With exquisite scenery and convenient location near your Maui Condo Rental, just a short walk to the ocean will start the kayaking trip of your dreams!

Are you dreaming of a Maui vacation but can’t get over the language and pronunciation of some of those Hawaiian words? Perhaps you’re dreaming of sounding like a kamaaiana but don’t know the jargon. Or perhaps you’re trying to reserve a Maui condo rental, but you can’t figure out one resort name from the other.

Although some Hawaiian words can be intimidating just by the sheer number of letters contained in them, lauwiliwilinukunukuoioi for example,

it’s interesting to note that the language consists of only 5 vowels and 7 consonants! Practicing breaking down the syllables and applying the correct pronunciation can be vital to not getting your okole kicked and not making you sound like a haole.

Once you’ve mastered the Hawaiian alphabet and syllable breakdown, get ready to learn how to speak Hawaiian with a local flair so you can avoid sounding aznuts. You’ll find it to your advantage to know the difference between a lua and a luau so you don’t inadvertently look like a lolo buggah and get asked in a heated fashion, “Like beef?”

So, practice wiki wiki, enjoy the island paradise without sounding like a malihini and have planny good times on your vacation.

Murrells Inlet in South Carolina is bursting at the seams with a fascinating and sometimes chilling history. Tales of pirates (yeah, the kind with eye patches) have been passed down for hundreds of years enticing locals and visitors alike to search for their own hidden treasures. It’s said that the famed Blackbeard himself took refuge in the creeks of Murrells Inlet waiting to attack ships bound for England. Other notable pirates like Stede Bonnet and Calico Jack Rackham also terrorized their fair share of the South Carolina coast.

Beginning in the 1700s Murrells Inlet made its debut in the rice industry and had cultivated close to 47 million pounds of rice by 1850. This lucrative business made many South Carolina rice planters very wealthy including one Joseph Alston, who eventually became South Carolina’s governor. To many people’s surprise, during this time, rice planters in South Carolina became wealthier and more powerful than their tobacco and sugar plantation counterparts in the southeast. Unfortunately, the success and wealth of rice plantations came to an abrupt halt in 1863 when the Civil War intruded on the shores of Murrells Inlet. Confederate troops were secretly using the inlet as a port to send products such as cotton to England in exchange for medicine, food and other war supplies. When the Union learned of this their warships attacked the confederate blockade destroying part of the inlet and a large portion of the rice industry. Although no one could predict this at the time, between the Civil War and a series of hurricanes that followed, South Carolina’s rice industry would be completely gone by 1916.

Following the Civil War, South Carolina in general and Murrells Inlet specifically got into the commercial fishing industry and by 1914 were offering fishing excursions as a recreational opportunity for guests and locals of Murrells Inlet. The commercial fishing industry became an advantageous market for Murrells Inlet although it never became the behemoth that the rice plantations developed into. As a couple decades past on and the Great Depression assaulted the majority of the United States, Murrells Inlet had a bit of good fortune in New York millionaire, Archer Milton Huntington when he rolled into town. Huntington had plans to build an audacious compound for himself and his wife, Anna Hyatt Huntington. Mr. Huntington commissioned all local workers to develop his 9,000 acre estate including brick masons, carpenters, landscapers and painters. Not only did he spend millions of dollars on his homestead, he also funded a community center, medical clinic and church for the people of Murrells Inlet.

Murrells Inlet is a hidden gem of abundant history and enchanting stories for all ages to enjoy. Just 20 minutes from Myrtle Beach, Murrells Inlet is an ideal family vacation destination.

The game of golf first came to Hawaii’s shores in 1898 in the form of Moanalua Golf Club in Oahu. Since then, Hawaii and surrounding islands have become a worldwide Mecca for the popular sport. While Hawaii may hold the title for first golf course on any of the islands, it’s the island of Maui that lays claim to some of the best-designed, stunning courses in the Pacific. The island of Maui is dotted with many gorgeous vacation rentals that are home to picturesque golf courses like Wailea Champion Villas. It is here you will find challenging courses that offer players of all levels the opportunity to improve their game among gorgeous foliage rich with color.

The award-winning Wailea Golf Club is one such course. The club is actually one of the largest and most celebrated courses in Hawaii. These greens actually consist of three separate courses; the Golf Course, Emerald Course and Blue Course. The Gold Course requires the most skill, being the toughest course of the popular trio. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, players will be surrounded by native Hawaiian plants, lava rock and spectacular views.
On the heels of its sister course, the Emerald Course has been awarded by Golf for Women as one of the most women-friendly courses in the nation. The rolling fairways are encircled with an abundant medley of flowers like: bird of paradise, beach morning glory, plumeria and many more. Perhaps the most special aspect of the Emerald Course is the ability to personalize each golf game to challenge players at their level.
As the first golf course built in Wailea, the Blue Course has been host to many famed golf events and players. The course provides players with the serene view of the startling blue ocean amidst majestic flora & fauna. The sweet humidity of the island is chased away by cool ocean breezes during your round of golf.
Shine your clubs and practice your swing, the courses of Maui await you!

Summer is in full swing down in the Gulf Coast. Breathtaking beaches and inviting waters draw thousands of visitors and locals to this playground of summer entertainment. With so much hustle and bustle, it’s hard to imagine how the local haunts and hotspots, especially restaurants, handle the influx of mouths to feed. Do not fret, the Gulf Coast is no joke when it comes to entertaining and in the game of hospitality – nobody does it better than the arsenal that Fort Morgan and Orange Beach are packing. Allow us to introduce some of the major culinary players.

The Hangout – probably best known for their jammed packed live music schedule at The Hangout Music Fest each summer, The Hangout also provides a family-friendly atmosphere made possible by their sand pit and tunnel, one stop fun shop and much more. A killer menu includes fresh seafood and the best burger on the coast.

Original Oyster House – As the name implies Original Oyster House has premier variety of unique oyster plates but that’s not all. Guests will find a delectable selection of fresh seafood including crab legs and shrimp as well as grilled items like chicken breast and New York strip steak.

Lulu’s at Homeport Marina – Serving up a whopping good time that can only be described as L.A. (Lower Alabama) hospitality, Lulu’s knows how to party. A delicious menu features everything from southern favorites like fried okra to seafood dishes, hamburgers and salads. Lulu’s has also cooked up an allergy menu for folks with food allergies.

Cosmo’s Restaurant & Bar – Named after an adorable shelter dog that proprietors Brian and Jodi Harsany rescued, Cosmo’s has quickly become a popular establishment serving up incredible dishes, specialty libations and unparalleled customer service.

These are just a few of the fantastic eateries that dot the landscape of the famed Gulf Shores, Alabama. All along the coast guests can find a mecca of fresh, down home restaurants that specialize in great food, drinks and most important genuine southern kindness. So get down to the Gulf Coast this summer and see what all the fuss is about!

Maui, Hawaii has long been a popular vacation destination for families, students and couples. Finding a comfortable Hawaiian vacation rental in Maui that overlooks the crystal clear waves of the Pacific Ocean contributes to the beautiful memories that guests make on the charming island. During the day, when visitors have left their accommodations behind, they want to find adventurous and exciting activities to fill up their day. In today’s economy, it can be hard to make the most out of a beach vacation with the high cost of tourism. We’ve compiled a list of four fabulous yet inexpensive ventures that will have you returning to Maui year after year.

1.	Scenic Drives – Maui has so much open space and incredible beauty to offer if you take the time to see it. Taking a day drive around the gorgeous island is an inexpensive way to really see the true majesty of the island. The Road to Hana is especially stunning if you plan to take the whole day so you can experience all of it!

2.	Farmers Market – During certain times of the year Maui has extraordinary Farmers Markets packed with delicious produce and local treats. Pick a few up for a minimal cost and get a genuine taste of Maui!

3.	Picnic or Romantic Evening – Make a scrumptious plate of fruit and cheese that you picked up from the farmers market and maybe grab a bottle of wine for a nice evening picnic. There are many free beaches to lay out a blanket and enjoy a nice sunset or ask locals where you can find a nice quiet spot for a more romantic setting.

4.	Art Galleries – Hawaii has a multitude of talented artists who showcase their wears in charming galleries. Admission is low cost and it makes for a creative and fun day. You may even find something to take home!

Two of the best months to plan a Hawaiian getaway to a place like Sugar Beach, Maui is September and October. Although school is back in session and a crisp fall climate is burgeoning on most of the mainland, Hawaii will be enjoying warm weather and best of all, sweet travel deals! Regardless of the season, don’t get stuck with the wrong wardrobe! Here are a few tips that will keep you looking sharp and maximize your suitcase space.

1.)	November through March is Hawaii’s rainy season. If you are heading to the island during this time bring clothing that you want to get caught in the rain with. Rain coats, umbrellas or water proof sport jackets are lightweight and easy to pack. Although the last few years have been quite dry during what is suppose to be the rainy season, it never hurts to be prepared!

2.)	The summer months are usually very hot and humid for Hawaii and her sister islands. Stick to lightweight t-shirts and tanks during this season and lightweight shorts or capris. Ideal fabrics are cotton, linen (if you don’t care about a few wrinkles) and knitwear.

3.)	Although rare, hurricane season in Hawaii lasts from June to November. Stick to the same wardrobe as the summer months but be prepared for a few showers and possible strong winds.

Regardless of the time of year to venture to exquisite Maui, you’re sure to have a memorable vacation with the ones you love. Just remember the sunscreen!

One of the most popular activities for people traveling to the alluring island of Maui is to take part in a famed Hawaiian feast most commonly known as a luau. Many Maui condo rentals, like those found at Kamaole Sands, are conveniently located near the best luaus on the island. With an array of Hawaiian delicacies and beverages to choose from, attending a luau at least once is a must for any and all travelers to the Hawaiian Islands. But when the lights go down and you’re headed back home to friends and family who missed out on the action, how will you explain to them what a wonderful delight a luau really is? By throwing one of course! Follow these five easy steps to creating a luau celebration in your own backyard.

1.) Purchase tiki torches for your yard and/or porch. You can buy tiki torches with oil for a live flame or flameless torches are also available.. Place the torches strategically around your space to create a party ambiance. Don’t forget a few citronella candles to keep the pests away!

2.) When guests arrive, greet them by placing a traditional flower lei around their neck. Leis can be purchased at many party supply stores in a variety of colors. If you’re looking for something more authentic, online retailers sell and ship leis with real flowers.

3.) Make a spread of typical Hawaiian food. Delicious fare at a luau can include Lomi Salmon, Chicken Luau and Laulau.

4.) Fun libations like Pina Coladas and Mai Tais are popular drinks among luau attendees. Also, have a few juices on hand for festive non-alcoholic drink options.

5.) Last but certainly not least, genuine Hawaiian luau music will set the tone for a party to remember!

Function is the key in renovating the famous Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington. Visitors are not going to notice much of a change after this four year renovation project is complete with most of the changes focusing on updating the public market’s core infrastructure to take it through its next century. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems have been updated and important historic buildings are benefiting from improved seismic stability. Continuing work will improve accessibility to the market with three new elevators and an extensive bathroom remodeling procedure.

Known as “The Soul of Seattle,” Pike Place Market was originally brought to life on August 17, 1907 when farmers brought their produce directly to the people of Seattle who showed up in overwhelming numbers. The farmers’ goods were sold out by 11:00 am thus beginning a supply and demand market that opened its own building with every space filled by the end of that first year. Today, the market is internationally known as America’s premier farmers’ market housing over 200 year round businesses.

“The Market,” as it is known by the locals, pulls in nearly 10 million visitors a year to enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment provided by street performers and musicians. The Market remains open during the renovation and with Phase II of IV wrapping up this month many businesses will be relocated back to their original locations and seasonal vendors returning. Heritage Tours also continue during construction and are offered daily each weekday but must be scheduled in advance. See The Market Foundation for more information on tours that will illustrate The Market in a way many visitors never get to see.

To get the full experience of The Market, we recommend a multi-day visit. While touring Seattle, stay only minutes from all the shopping and entertainment at Hotel Five, one of the premier hotels in Seattle. With plush mattresses and linens, a breakfast and lunch café, business traveler amenities, and a well-equipped fitness center, Hotel Five is centrally located to be your home away from home while visiting the historic Pike Place Market and the vibrant city of Seattle, Washington.

Arguably the most important decision when it comes to wedding planning (besides the dress, ladies) is choosing an idyllic location that will set the atmosphere for the entire wedding celebration. The location will forever be an integral part of the ceremony, pictures and beauty of that special day. Cleveland, Ohio offers a multitude of stunning locations that will put the finishing touches on the most important day of your life.

•	For art lovers, Cleveland is home to many spectacular museums and music institutes offering classic and modern backdrops for a ceremony.

•	If you and your fiancé have a historical background, look into a unique location like Great Lakes Science Center which offers a variety of rooms for special events.

•	A natural setting always makes for gorgeous pictures and creates an uplifting mood around your wedding party and guests. Try the Cleveland Botanical Gardens which boasts 10 acres of incredible gardens.

Another exceptional benefit of your Ohio wedding is the huge variety of Cleveland activities and events your wedding guests can take part in before or after the awesome celebration. As previously mentioned, there is no shortage of music venues or museums that provide fun from the youngest to the oldest guest. The spring and summer months bring exquisite entertainment to University Circle in Cleveland. Guests can take in flower displays, piano festivals, concerts, parades and so much more!

Don’t cancel your summer plans yet! There are many free and inexpensive attractions in and around Orlando, Florida that will satisfy everyone in your family and have them begging to return year after year. Take a trip down memory lane at Old Town. This fun carnival-like attraction will take you back in time with old time cruise nights featuring cars from 1974 and older. Rock out to live bands and sing along with the oldies.
There’s also a variety of fun shops, carnival rides and dining areas for the whole family to enjoy.

Another family-friendly activity is the many Florida Museums. Florida has a fantastic selection of museums to explore from the Museum of Seminole County History to the Charles Hosmer Museum of American Art. Just because you’re not at the park, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the magical world of Disney. Downtown Disney admission is free. Browse the many unique shops or catch a live show or music event.
If you’re looking for something fun and educational there are a multitude of options. Black Hammock Adventures, located on Lake Jessup, provides free live alligator and bird exhibits. Cape Canaveral is just 45 minutes away and features the famed Kennedy Space Center where tours and activities can be enjoyed for a minimal cost. Kids will love the LEGO Imagination Center located in the Disney Downtown Marketplace. You will be in awe of this colossal building that is home to a 23-foot LEGO giraffe.

While you’re traveling, why stay in a crowded expensive hotel when you can find an affordable Orlando vacation rental that feels like a home away from home. At the end of the day, when the family has explored to their heart’s content, bring them back to your vacation rental where they can relax by the pool and make a snack in a full kitchen.

Make lasting memories with your family this year in Orlando, Florida!

More often than not, when people think of Orlando, Florida visions of Mickey Mouse ears and Disney princesses dance in their head. When someone says, “Florida Vacation” they’re usually not thinking of horseback rides, cattle drives and endangered panthers. Are you ready for a new kind of Florida Vacation?

Take a walk on the wild side at Forever Florida. Forever Florida is a Sunshine State hotspot for travelers who want to venture off the beaten path, and make their Floridian vacation an authentic one.
A unique piece of Florida’s rich history, Forever Florida offers many activities that the whole family will enjoy.

If you’re into high-flying adventure, take a trip on Florida’s first and only Zip Line Safari.

Choose from a day or night tour and soar 55 feet over Florida vegetation and wetlands.

The Zip Line Safari can amass speeds of up to 25 MPH. While you’re up there, keep an eye out for exciting wildlife especially at night! Don’t worry, if you miss any animals on your way down, stop by the wildlife interaction area at the end of the zip line to see alligators, a hybrid panther and more!
If you prefer a more “grounded” excursion, try a Horseback Safari or Rawhide Roundup.

The Horseback Safaris can last between two and three hours and will take you through acres of gorgeous Florida wildlife conservation, including nine ecosystems.

If there is a history buff in your group, you’ll be traveling over historic trails that date back to the 1500’s.

For those that have been dying to wear the cowboy boots in their closet, take advantage of the Rawhide Roundup. Spend the day with a genuine Cow Hunter on a cattle herd through Crescent J Ranch.

Hands on experience will teach you the ins and outs of daily life on a Florida ranch.

Again for those history lovers, the cattle you herd are Spanish Colonial Cattle and could be descendents of the cattle brought to Florida by Ponce De Leon in 1521.

More relaxing, but just as exploratory, a Coach Safari is another option during your time at Forever Florida. You’ll sit in an open-air safari coach while you make your way through acres of conservation.

The coach is elevated five feet above ground so sightseeing can be enjoyed by all.

Keep your eye out for panthers, black bears and white-tail deer as many animals make their homes on the lush property.

After you’ve spent the day enjoying the wilds of Florida, retire to the comfort of your Orlando vacation rental. Lounge by the pool or relax in your Jacuzzi, and gear up for whatever adventure is next.

It’s been pretty cold lately, and when it’s cold I find my mind drifting to warmer places. Not because I don’t like to play in the snow, but it’s always that we want that which we can’t have. This cold weather always gets me thinking about the beach and the warm air, the smell of the ocean and sunsets that last for hours. More than just dreaming about the beach, I’m thinking about where I honeymooned some time ago. The Mexican Riviera and more specifically, near Playa del Carmen.

While I have been to the area quite a few times, there’s always more to see and do whether you enjoy an active vacation or just relaxing. Next time I travel to the area, I want to experience a luxury Mexico vacation. Not just a resort that offers the beach, pools and all the other goods. I want a resort that’s tailored to the experience of the area and luxury.

Now, normally, I would write about the beach and what to do in the area. But this place is different and I wanted to share a little bit about Hacienda res Rios. On 326 acres in a pristine nature park, located on the Riviera Maya, you’ll find this new resort that opened just over a year ago. This is not just your average all-inclusive resort. A short forty five minutes from Cancun’s airport, you’ll find the fusion of modern travel and Mexican and Mayan traditions. This place offers an experience so unique, you’ll want to return.

The exclusive, eco-friendly retreat is in the heart of the Riviera Maya. You’ll find jungle, mangrove forest and coastal dunes. There are ten freshwater springs, a sandy white beach and three rivers as the name suggests. Alongside all this, you’ll find a marina and yacht club, an equestrian center, convention center, estuary and nature park, bird sanctuary and botanical garden. There’s also a spa, a beach club, and a Mayan cultural center.

As you ponder all that which this resort has to offer, think on the activities available. Each guest has access to the Nature park and the beach, but you can also kayak or snorkel, take fitness classes or even yoga. Maybe you like the directed activities by the pool, or enjoying a show in the evening. There are even bicycles to ride!

Looking at the list of tours available, you can take guided tours through the property and learn more about the cenotes or the Plant Nursery, maybe kayak one of the rivers or jo along the Nature Park. You can take a class and experience Tequila tasting or wine tasting. Maybe learn how to carve fruit or learn to prepare some dishes native to the area. There’s so much to do that I can’t even list it all and you don’t have to leave the property to experience it all.

I’m not sure when I’ll be returning to the Riviera Maya, but this would be the ultimate destination. Maybe at the next big anniversary I’ll be able to make the journey.

It’s no secret why Ocean City, New Jersey has been hailed as “America’s Greatest Family Resort.” With attractions and events to appeal to every family member, everyone is sure to have a great time. When you think of fun on the Jersey shore, you typically think of warm summer days spent on the beach. Nevertheless, there is fun to be had all year round in Ocean City. Visitors can experience the tasty goodness that the local farmer’s market has to offer or take in the various merchant tables aligning the boardwalk during the summer and fall weekends and then catch one of the many concerts and live events in the evening. Ocean City is bustling with activities all year round, from hayrides in the fall to breakfast with Santa and the Christmas Parade in December. Easter egg hunts, fashion shows, and spring block parties are popular in the spring. Whatever activities you enjoy, Ocean City has attractions from January through December.

Family Excitement
During the summer, you can visit Playland’s Castaway Cove; one of the many amusement parks located right on the Ocean City boardwalk. The Cove features over 30 rides, and tickets to Playland’s Castaway Cove never expire! The arcade at Playland’s Castaway Cove is home to some of the latest video games and hi-tech sporting games such as basketball and hockey. Mom, dad, and even grandma can take a spin on the go karts or the Super Slide – just one of the many family rides at Playland’s Castaway Cove.

Premier Golfing for the Family or Serious Golfer
For many families vacationing on the Jersey shore, taking in a game of golf is a must. Ocean City has a number of golf courses to choose from. If you’re passionate about golfing and need to get in a tee time or two, spending some time at Ocean City Golf Course might be what you need. Twelve holes on a par 37 course of lush green is perfect for a short game in between seeing the sights and other Ocean City family attractions. Should you want to take in a game of miniature golf with family and friends, Ocean City, NJ has you covered there as well. Various miniature golf courses line the boardwalk and outlying areas, such as Congo Falls Golf courses. This miniature golf course offers challenges and adventure for the entire family.

Lodging that Feels Like Home
While you’re vacationing in Ocean City, you have the best in comfort lodging available by taking up residence in one of the many splendid and beautifully decorated Ocean City NJ rentals. By choosing a rental property, you get the comfort of home by choosing the type of rental you want, either a condo or a home.

For many families vacationing on the Jersey shore, taking in a game of golf is a must. Ocean City has a number of golf courses to choose from. If you’re passionate about golfing and need to get in a tee time or two, spending some time at Ocean City Golf Course might be what you need. Should you want to take in a game of miniature golf with family and friends, Ocean City, NJ has you covered there as well. Various miniature golf courses line the boardwalk and outlying areas, such as Congo Falls Golf courses. This miniature golf course offers challenges and adventure for the entire family.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina allow for several types of fishing; pier fishing, surf fishing and of course charter fishing. Fishing off of Outer Banks piers can result in catching Cobia, King Mackeral, Rock Fish and Speckled Trout. The Nags Head pier produced the largest known King Mackeral to be caught off the pier at 58 1/2 lbs.

Surf fishing is great because you don’t need a boat, a pier or pay someone to take you out on a charter boat. As long as you can access the beach you’re in. In the Outer Banks, surf fishing produces Blue fish, Croaker and Flounder and they can be caught most anytime especially in the Spring and Fall.

Charter fishing can be done most anywhere but the Outer Banks is special in that the Intercoastal Waterway runs close to the shore due to the Barrier Islands and that means big fish are always traveling up the coast in search of food. Pretty much the same kind of fish can be caught offshore as you can catch off a pier with the exception of Albacore Tuna and some other deep water species.

The really fun part of catching all of these great tasting fish is to eat them. One can have their catch fried, grilled, baked and blackened at one of the many seaside restaurants or one can visit a plethora of seafood markets with most having their own restaurant inside. Lots of crab, clams and shrimp are to be expected. What is really fun is to spend all day catching fish off of the pier and then having the Nags Head Pier Restaurant cook them up for you. After eating, enjoy taking a long stroll on the pier and check out others trying to land a “Big One”.

If a beach vacation is on the horizon and fishing is expected to happen then plan a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Nags Head area.

When leaving Denver in the rear-view mirror and heading up I-70 going West, one starts to see the Rocky Mountains in front and the plains behind. After going through Eisenhower Tunnel and Loveland Pass one starts going down the other side only to meet Summit County head on. There are three towns adjacent to each other, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne. There are five ski areas that can be accessed rather easily and those are Breckenridge, Copper, Keystone, A-Basin and Loveland ski area. A-Basin and Loveland tend to be used by the locals but should not be overlooked by any skier or snowboarder. Most of the skier traffic to Summit County comes from the Front Range and Denver just because it is so convenient and the ski area options are so great.

Transportation is very easy to obtain from Denver and one can stop driving once getting to Summit County because everything is at your fingertips – retail shopping, dining, rental shops, clothing outlets, grocery stores, lodging and transportation.

Key West is home to the Regatta Key West, Conch Republic Days, Lobster mini-season and the Poker Run just to name a few. Everything mentioned after Regatta Key West probably raises some eyebrows as well as mine. The Conch Republic Days are in April and the locals have a conch shell blowing contest, a bed race down Duval Street and a reenactment of the battle for independence of the Conch Republic. The lobster mini-season is only two days and it takes place in July. It’s where local divers get to take the lobster bounty for themselves. Lodging is at full capacity during this time. The Poker Run is charitable event where thousands upon thousands of motorcyclists ride from the mainland to Key West and pick up poker cards along the way at five designated points. Whoever has the best hand at the end of the ride wins a new bike or $5,000. This event brings a lot of support to the town and to the charities.
